Types of funeral services

Often, the decision of what type of funeral service to have is the hardest choice to make. There are many options that individuals or families have that may make these decisions easier. Consideration of the individual’s needs and desires along with the many options available permits anyone to personalize the funeral service that is best for them.

Traditional Funeral w/ Burial

This type of service generally includes public or private viewing of the deceased at the funeral home or elsewhere, a service either at the funeral home or elsewhere (such as a funeral mass or service at a church) and burial or entombment in a cemetery.

Traditional Funeral with Cremation

This type of service generally includes public or private viewing of the deceased at the funeral home or elsewhere, a service either at the funeral home or elsewhere (such as a funeral mass or service at a church) followed by cremation. The cremains can then either be buried in a cemetery, inurned in a columbarium, scattered or kept for later disposition.

Cremation with Memorial Service

This type of service includes cremation followed at some time by a memorial service for the deceased with or without the cremains present. Cremains can then be buried in a cemetery, inurned in a columbarium, scattered or kept for later disposition.

Direct Cremation

This option is for cremation with any type of formal service. Following the cremation of the deceased, the cremains can then either be buried in a cemetery, inurned in a columbarium, scattered or kept of later disposition.

Direct Burial

This option includes the burial or entombment of the deceased in a cemetery without any visitation or service.

Graveside Services

In the majority of cases, traditional funerals include a service at the cemetery. There is also the option to combine graveside services with a direct cremation when the cremains are buried or to have a service at the grave with a direct burial.
